6th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2020 came at a time when mankind is waging a spirited battle to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic. While Yoga has always been an easy way to maintain a healthy physical, mental and spiritual life, it has emerged even more relevant in these extraordinary and trying times. Its regimen of asanas and exercises, particularly the breathing exercises have helped to boost immunity, respiratory system and maintain a sense of balance during the long periods of lockdown and isolation.

Yoga originated in the ancient traditions of India. The word ‘yoga’ derived from Sanskrit language means to unite, symbolizing the holistic unity between mind and body, between the individual and society, and between humankind and nature. Yoga personifies unity, community and immunity.

As the unprecedented healthcare challenge this year limited the possibilities for collective celebrations, it was planned to celebrate IDY 2020 from homes- “Ghar Ghar Se Yoga – Yoga from Home”. The Embassy of India, Khartoum invited all the Yoga enthusiasts to do Yoga at home and share videos and photos. The Embassy is happy to share some of those.
