Ambassador Mr. B.S. Mubarak held a meeting with Acting FAO Representative Mr. Adam Vinaman Yao on celebrating International Year of Millets in Sudan.
India's proposal to observe an International Year of Millets in 2023 was approved by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the United Nations General Assembly declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYoM).
The main objectives of IYoM are to spread awareness of the contribution of millet to Food Security and nutrition, inspire stakeholders to improve sustainable production and quality of millets; and focus on enhanced investment in research and development and extension services to achieve the other two aims.
Embassy of India in partnership with FAO proposes to celebrate the International Year of Millets in Sudan through various events in the coming months.
