Celebrations of 71st Independence Day of India
Celebrations of 71 st Independence Day of India by Embassy of India, Khartoum
The 71st Independence Day was celebrated by Embassy of India, Khartoum with gaiety and fervor at the Embassy Residence on 15 th August 2017. Ambassador Shri Amrit Lugun hoisted the National Flag which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. The Ambassador then read out the Hon’ble President’s message (both in Hindi and English) delivered on the eve of Independence Day. This was followed by cultural programme consisting of dance performance and patriotic songs, which was well appreciated by the audience. Around 170 guests from Indian community attended the function. The Chancery building and Embassy Residence were lit up in the national tricolor in the evening which continued throughout the night. The event was covered prominently in the popular local daily English Newspaper, Sudan Vision, which published a full page article with photographs of the event on 16 th August 2017.
On this occasion, in order to project and highlight the achievement of India in Space, an article captioned “Reaching for the Stars, India’s Quest for the Outer Space: Aryabhatta to Mangalyaan” was also published in the local daily newspaper, Sudan Vision’ on 16 th August 2017.
Prior to main event of Independence Day, in order to mark the completion of 70 years of India’s Independence a friendly football match between the teams of Indian Embassy and ex-Meriekh players was organized at Elmeriekh Stadium, Omdurman on 12 th August 2017. Around 300 persons from Indian community and Sudanese football enthusiasts attended this event. A painting competition for children was also organized during the interval of the football match.
