Celebrations of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by Embassy of India, Khartoum
1. Embassy of India, Khartoum, celebrated the 150 th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Green Yard, Khartoum, Sudan on 02 nd October 2018. The event was attended, inter alia, by Dr. Awad Ahmed Mohamed Eljaz, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Sudan and Vice Chair of Higher Committee for BRICS countries (as Chief Guest); Eng. Dr. Khalid Mohammed Khair, Minister of Transport of Khartoum State, Madame Amira, Commissioner in the Khartoum State, Mr. Kamil Mustafa Elamin, General Manager, SudaPost; Eng. Abdul-Moniem Al-Sunni, Secretary-General of CIPF; members of Diplomatic community, members of the Indian community and Sudanese audience.
2. In order to highlight the relevance of Gandhi’s life and philosophy in today’s world, his messages through LED images were screened. On this occasion, Ambassador Ravindra Prasad Jaiswal unveiled a set of Gandhi@150 Commemorative postage stamps with Dr. Awad Ahmed Mohamed Eljaz, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Sudan, and Mr. Kamil Mustafa Elamin, General Manager of SudaPost. Mission had arranged singing and recording of Gandhi’s favourite bhajan- ‘Vaishnav Jan to Tene Kahiye’ sung by a popular Sudanese singer, Rimaz Mirghani, which was screened during the function. A brief cultural programme with the help of local talents was also presented.
