Embassy of India, Khartoum in association with Tamil Sangam in Sudan and Indian Friendship Club, Khartoum celebrated 'Tamil Nadu Day & Pongal' at Indian Friendship Club, Khartoum on 13 January 2023.
Embassy of India, Khartoum in association with Tamil Sangam in Sudan and Indian Friendship Club, Khartoum celebrated ‘Tamil Nadu Day & Pongal’ at Indian Friendship Club, Khartoum on 13 January 2023. The event started with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony where Dr. Abdul Moneim, Director of the National Centre for Gastroenterology and Liver Disease, Ibn Sina Hospital, and a famous Sudanese surgeon with a strong connection with Tamil Nadu participated along with the Ambassador of India, his spouse, and a few members of the Indian community.
2. While speaking on the occasion, Mr. B.S Mubarak, Ambassador highlighted the history of Tamil Nadu, Tamil Culture, and Pongal celebration.
3. The event was well attended by more than 400 Indian nationals, Sudanese nationals, Persons of Indian Origins, and friends of India. The event was celebrated in a traditional manner with several games organized for children and adults. Cultural performances showcasing the culture of Tamil Nadu were presented by the members of the community.
4. Several Indians as well as Sudanese participated in the ten games organized during the celebration. The winners of the games were awarded prizes. Traditional Tamil dishes including Pongal were served at the end of the event.
4. The Embassy of India would like to appreciate members of the Tamil Sangam in Sudan for coordinating this event. The event provided an opportunity to exhibit Indian tradition and culture to Sudanese and other foreigners.
