Celebration of Vishwa Hindi Diwas (World Hindi Day) 2021
Embassy of India, Khartoum celebrated Vishwa Hindi Diwas at India House. The programme was attended by former students of the ICCR Hindi Chair, prominent members of Omdurman Indian Community, Sudanese Indian Friendship Association, Khartoum Indian club, Indian and Sudanese communities and Hindi lovers. The programme consisted of recital of Hindi poetry, singing Hindi songs, speeches and experience sharing in Hindi specially relating to the importance of Hindi language and touching various aspects like Hindi being an easy language to learn for non-native speakers, is the language that connects India, ICCR's role in promoting Hindi and Indian culture in Sudan and role of diaspora in promoting Hindi and Indian culture etc and a quiz on Hindi language. Some participants attended virtually as they could not make it to the venue and sent videos. And finally, the attendees were served with Indian snacks and sweets.
It is very well known that there is a huge love for India and Indianness, including Hindi language in Sudan and almost all households watch Hindi movies on daily basis which are telecast by channels like Zee Aflam, MBC Bollywood etc. Many of the participants expressed sadness at the absence of the ICCR Hindi Chair Teacher and they were missing the opportunity to learn Hindi. The first Hindi Teacher left after completing her tenure in Feb 2019 and thereafter a new Teacher could not join due to the corona and the Sudanese revolution and protests earlier. They sincerely hoped that a new Teacher can join the Chair soon.
