Celebration of ITEC Day (17 February 2022)
The Embassy of India, Khartoum celebrated Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day on 17 Feb 2022 at hotel Al Salam, Khartom. The event was well attended by around 150 guests which included ITEC Alumni, diplomats from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, senior officers of other Ministries, Defence personnel and media representatives. H.E. Dr. Siddig Bushra Al Fadil, Director General, Ministry of Higher Education graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The other prominent persons who attended the event were H.E. Mr. Al Zain Al Sadig Al Zain, Director General of Asian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Major General Ezzeldin Osman Taha, Advisor to Defence Minister, Lt. General Abdullah Al Bashir, Deputy Chief of Staff (Training) in the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Osman Mohammed Dafa Allah, Director for Debt Department in the Ministry of Finance and Mr. Mhammed Ali Fazari, Editor-in-Chief of Khartoum Today Newspaper of the Republic of Sudan.
2. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional lamp followed by the national anthems of India and Sudan. Ambassador of India, H.E. Mr. B. S. Mubarak in his welcome remarks highlighted the significance of ITEC programme for capacity building of scholars from partner countries including Sudan. He highlighted the cultural and people-to people contact generated between the two countries through ITEC Courses and other capacity building measures offered to Sudanese nationals. Ambassador, Mr. B. S. Mubarak conveyed that Sudan is the largest recipient of India’s capacity building programmes under WANA region. He also informed about e-ITEC programmes and resumption of normal scholarship programme once the situation normalizes from Covid pandemics.
3. During his remarks, the Chief Guest acknowledged the noticeable developments in the bilateral relations of the two countries. He also acknowledged India’s contributions in various field including capacity building and proposed to have more interactions in the field of Education and Culture. Some of the ITEC beneficiaries also shared their experiences of their visit to India.
4. A quiz session on the theme Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was also organised as well as a Bollywood song was presented by Ms. Hadel Diab, Sudanese national on the occasion. The guests present there actively participated in the quiz. Gifts were distributed to the winners. The Documentary films on ‘ITEC’ and ‘India-Africa Partnership for Progress’ were also screened during the event.
